A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that a Canadian employer may need to get before hiring a foreign worker. A positive LMIA shows there is a need for a foreign worker and that no Canadian worker is available for the job.

Jobs with an approved LMIA are the clearest path for foreign workers to obtain a Canadian work permit, as the employer has already demonstrated the labour market need to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
