What Do We Expect From Express Entry Draws for the Rest of 2026?

Based on our analysis of 0 draws and 0 invitations issued so far in 2026, here is what we expect for upcoming draws.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Draws

Provincial Nominee Program draws remain a critical pathway for Express Entry candidates. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points, virtually guaranteeing an invitation to apply.

PNP Express Entry draws are likely to continue regularly, potentially every 14 days. Provincial nominations are time-limited, so provinces and IRCC cannot leave nominated candidates sitting in the Express Entry pool indefinitely without risking those nominations expiring.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Draws

The Canadian Experience Class targets candidates already working in Canada with qualified Canadian work experience. The government has made it clear it wants to focus on transitioning temporary residents to permanent resident status, making CEC draws an important draw type.

We expect CEC draws to continue at least once or twice per month to ensure high-scoring in-Canada applicants are routinely selected from the pool.

Category-Based Draws

Category-based selection, introduced in 2023, allows IRCC to target candidates based on occupation, language ability, or other economic factors.

IRCC has been issuing multiple draws per week, which typically include PNP, CEC, and one or more category-based draws. We expect this pace to continue for the remainder of 2026.

General / All Program Draws

General (All Program) draws invite the highest-scoring candidates from the entire Express Entry pool regardless of category. These draws tend to have the highest CRS cutoffs.

With IRCC increasingly favouring targeted category-based and CEC draws, General draws have become less frequent. However, they remain an important mechanism for high-scoring candidates and may still occur periodically.

What Factors Influence the Next Express Entry Draw Date?

1

Government Policies & Immigration Targets

The Canadian government's immigration policies and annual Immigration Levels Plan set targets for how many permanent residents are admitted. These targets directly influence the frequency, size, and type of Express Entry draws. Changes to annual targets can lead to larger or more frequent draws.

2

Economic Needs & Labour Market

Canada's economic needs and labour market demands are critical factors. IRCC adjusts draw categories based on occupation shortages, regional needs, and industry demands. This is why category-based draws target healthcare, STEM, trades, and transport workers.

3

Historical Trends & Processing Capacity

Historical patterns provide strong signals for predicting draws. IRCC has maintained relatively consistent scheduling, though gaps can vary due to processing backlogs, holidays, or policy changes. Our EWMA model captures these patterns with recency weighting to produce the most accurate forecasts possible.
