Provincial Benefits — Ontario

Ontario Trillium Benefit

The Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) is a combined monthly payment administered by the CRA on behalf of the Province of Ontario. It rolls together three credits: the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit (OEPTC), the Northern Ontario Energy Credit (NOEC), and the Ontario Sales Tax Credit (OSTC). Eligible Ontario residents can receive monthly payments if their annual entitlement exceeds a threshold, or a single lump-sum payment if below that threshold.

Next payment: Tuesday, November 10, 2026 (in 2 days)

FAQs

What credits are included in the Ontario Trillium Benefit?
The OTB combines the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit (OEPTC), Northern Ontario Energy Credit (NOEC), and the Ontario Sales Tax Credit (OSTC).
When are OTB payments made?
OTB payments are made monthly, typically on the 10th of each month. If your annual entitlement is below a minimum threshold, you may receive a single lump-sum payment instead.
Do I need to apply for the OTB?
No separate application is required. File your income tax return and complete the ON-BEN form to claim the Ontario credits. The CRA will calculate your entitlement.
Can I receive the OTB if I rent rather than own property?
Yes. Renters in Ontario may qualify for the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit component of the OTB based on their rent paid during the year.
